Morgan State Falls at Saint Louis, 64-51
SAINT LOUIS, Mo. (Nov. 14, 2010)-Lauren Woods scored 15 of her game-high 21 points in the second half and Mallory Eggert came off the bench to add 13 points, as host Saint Louis stopped Morgan State, 64-51 in a non-conference game at Centre Court at Chaifetz Arena.
The loss was the Lady Bears' 23rd out of 27 attempts against an opponent out of the Atlantic 10 Conference and spoiled what was a homecoming for five Lady Bears, who are from the Saint Louis area.
Morgan State (1-1) was led by senior Theresa Davis, who recorded a double-double with a game-high 13 rebounds and added 10 points. Freshman Whitney Southerland led the Lady Bears with a team-high 13 points, including three treys. Erin Hawkins finished with 10 points on 4-of-8 shooting, including two three-pointers.
The Lady Bears shot 19-of-57 (33.3 percent) from the field, including 6-of-21 from three-point range (28.6 percent). Morgan State recorded five steals with Moneshia Davis (five points, seven rebounds) tallying a game-high two steals. The Lady Bears also held a 3-2 advantage in blocks.
The Billikens (1-1) shot 41.9 percent (26-of-62), including 4-for-9 (44.4 percent) from beyond the arc. SLU held a 20-11 advantage in assists with Janisha Gearlds dishing out a game-high five assists to go along with nine points.

North Carolina A&T Defeats Winthrop, 81-56
ROCK HILL, S.C. - A day after one of the worse defeats in the Bibbs era, North Carolina A&T responded with authority as they defeated Winthrop 81-56 in the second game of the Winthrop Tournament played at the Winthrop Coliseum on Sunday.
Freshman guard Alishia Mosley led the way with 22 points on 5-for-10 shooting from 3-point range. She also dished out five assists, grabbed five rebounds and turned the ball over just once in what was her first collegiate start. Freshman Sabre Proctor came off the bench to contribute 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Freshman Tracy King was also a part of the youthful uprising as she finished with 14 points off the bench. Sophomore Jaquayla Berry added a double-double with 17 points and 12 boards. Mosley earned All-Tournament honors.
The Aggies seemed to take charge after King's outburst. Mosley hit another three just before the half to put the Aggies down 30-27 going into the locker room. The two teams played evenly over the first 10 minutes of the second half. But King's layup with 9:25 remaining gave the Aggies a 49-48 advantage. They never trailed again.
N.C. A&T went on a 15-5 run that was capped off by a Mosley 3-pointer that put the Aggies ahead by double figures for good. Lacey Lyons led the Eagles with 17 points.

First-Half Run Helps UMES Over UMBC In Opener, 64-52
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Senior Casey Morton and freshman Kwinnyata Mercer scored a game-high 11 points each to lead Maryland Eastern Shore to a 64-52 win in the Hawks' season opener at the William P. Hytche Athletic Center Sunday.
UMES (1-0) opened the season with a win as for the first time since Nov. 21, 200l when the Hawks topped Mississippi Valley State on the road. The win is also the first against UMBC (1-1) since Dec. 14, 1987, a 91-83victory at Tawes Gymnasium.
UMES used a 29-8 run over 11:27 in the first half to take a lead it did not lose the rest of the day. Down, 4-0 in the early going, UMES took advantage of the spurt for its biggest lead at 29-12 with 4:13 left in the opening 20 minutes. Senior Latoya Buckner canned a 3-pointer from junior Caitlyn Dillard for a 10-8 lead at the 11:21 mark and UMES was on its way.
UMBC, which received 10 points from Chelsea Barker, Tope Obajulo and Erin Brown, shaved the deficit to as little as 10 in the last minute of the half and trailed, 34-22, at intermission.
Junior Bria Jackson hit a three with a 1:35 gone in the second half to push the UMES lead to 38-24 before the Retrievers, held to 32.2 percent (29-for-59) from the floor for the game, used two Barker threes and layups from Opajolu and Brown to get to within 38-34 with 15:35 to play. But a Morton basket from long range on the next possession pushed the lead back to seven midway through the half at 41-34.
Morton secured a career-high nine rebounds and was one short of her first double-double in her 87th game at UMES. UMES outrebounded UMBC, 49-35 and outscored the Retrievers' bench, 28-13.

Lady Rattlers Edge Alabama-Birmingham, 67-65
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Nov14) - Antonia Bennett made a layup with 35 seconds to go in the game as the Florida A&M pulled out a 67-65 win over Alabama-Birmingham, Sunday evening at the Bartow arena.
FAMU (1-1) had three Lady Rattlers to score in double-digits as Tameka McKelton scored a game 24 points to lead all scorers. Bennett finished the game with 16 points, while Qiana Donald added 15. Donald the Lady Rattlers on the boards with nine, while both McKelton and Myeshia Simms dished out a team high five assists each.
UAB (0-1) had a pair of Blazer to score in double-digits as both Jala Harris and Amber Jones finished with 19 points each. Meagan Brown led team in rebounds with six, while Jones led the team in assists with three.
FAMU finished the first half shooting a hot 52.2 percent (12-of-23) from the field, while UAB shot 45.4 percent (11-of-24) as they trailed UAB 35-34 at the break

Doyle's 30 points Not Enough In 80-55 Loss to Vanderbilt
NASHVILLE, TN - Saadia Doyle scored a game-high 30 points as the Howard fell to Vanderbilt (1-0), 80-55 in Nashville, Tenn. With the loss, the Lady Bison drop to 0-2 on the season. Howard is back in action on Nov. 18 when it hosts Radford beginning at 7 p.m.
Along with Doyle's game high, she also pulled down a team-best 10 rebounds for her second-straight double-double of the season. The team was outrebounded 44-32, however. Cheyenne Curley-Payne pulled down five off the glass and dished out four assists.
Tamoria Holmes chipped in with nine points and a team-best five steals. HU outscored the Commodores 6-2 in fast-break points and had 12 points off 16 Vanderbilt turnovers.
For the game, HU hit 22-for-63 (34.9 percent) from the field, while Vandy finished 23-for-53 (43.4 percent).
The Commodores had four players reach double-figures with Stephanie Holzer leading the team with 20 points and 11 boards off the bench. Vandy's bench outscored Howard's bench 35-9. Christina Foggie had 14 points while Jasmine Lister and Angela Puleo finished with 13 and 11 points, respectively.
