Hawks Complete Season At NCAA Regional

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -Maryland Eastern Shore's men's and women's cross country teams completed their season with the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Basil Melek finished a tough 10k course in 50th place with a time of 31:43.

Senior Peter Sang finished 144th with a time of 34:11 while junior Shadrack Maritim was 149th in 34:33.  Senior Amon Kiprotich finished in a flat time of 35:00, which was good for 166th place.

Freshmen Shaquille Turner and Alonzo Jarmon in addition to sophomore Codjo Gbedo rounded out UMES' results.  Turner finished 185th with a time of 38:13 while Gbedo and Jarmon finished 187th and 188th with respective times of 41:21 and 41:50.

As a team, the Hawks finished 24th out of 31 teams.  Princeton University won the event and had three top-ten finishes.  Georgetown University senior Ayalew Taye placed first with at time of 30:05.

In the women's 6k race, UMES finished 29th out of 33 teams.  Villanova University won their second consecutive Mid-Atlantic Regional and were led by junior Sheila Reid who finished first overall with a time of 19:34.

Senior Eunice Jones finished the day with a time of 23:59, which placed her 150th overall.  Junior Cynthia Anais was close behind in 158th place with a time of 24:20.

Junior Emilie Ducados and senior Jessica Abrantes finished 189th and 190th with respective times of 25:53 and 25:58.  Sophomore Melina Gallas ran a time of 28:06, which was good for 194th place while sophomore Jennell Wade finished 196th in 28:28.
