Anais And Melek Lead UMES To Sweep At DSU Invite

For the second time this season,  Maryland Eastern Shore men's and women's cross country teams swept a meet hosted by Delaware State as they both took first at the DSU Invitational Friday evening, held at the DSU Farm.

Junior Cynthia Anais and sophomore Basil Melek continue to lead the Hawks as they both took home the gold in their respective races.

Anais finished the 5k women's race in a time of 19:18.16 while Melek finished the same length course for the men in 15:16.02.

The UMES men also swept spots two through four with senior Amon Kiprotich  in 15:00.02, senior Peter Sang  in 16:05.02 and junior Shadrack Maritim  finishing in 16:18.00.

Freshman Donohue Williams placed 12th with at time of 18:16.64 while sophomore Codjo Gbedo was 13th in a time of 18:17.26.  Freshman Kraig Webb finished in a time of 19:29.48, which was good for 19th, and freshman Shaquille Turner was 20th in 19:29.92.  Freshman Alonzo Jarmon rounded out the Hawks in 24th place with a time of 20:14.51.

Behind Anais in the women's race was senior Eunice Jones who placed fourth in a time of 19:49.16.  Sophomore Emilie Ducados ran a time of 21:19.91, which was good for eighth place while senior Jessica Abrantes came in 10th with a time of 21:31.56.

Junior Melina Gallas crossed in a time of 21:45.47 to finish 12th.  Sophomore Kenesha Abrams placed 16th in 22:54.32 while sophomore Jennell Wade was 18th in 23:34.03.
