Lady Eagles End Losing Streak With Victory Over Hampton
BALTIMORE -- Ashley Saunders had 16 kills and Christina Epps added a career-high 13 kills as Coppin State ended a 36-match MEAC losing streak with a 25-21, 25-20, 20-25, 25-23 victory over Hampton on Friday in the Physical Education Complex.
The victory marked the Eagles first conference win since defeating Delaware State 30-21, 24-30, 30-21, 30-20 on Nov. 10, 2006 in the Coppin Center.
It also halted a six-match losing streak as the Eagles notched their first MEAC victory of the season and improved to 4-19 overall and 1-6 in conference play.
Freshman Haley Beechler turned in a gritty performance as she recorded a career-high 48 assists and had eight digs despite battling an illness throughout the match.
Coppin State also received 10 kills and five blocks from Alexandria Malesick and nine kills and 10 digs from Vanity Massey.
The Eagles had 53 kills and 10 service aces for the match, while also hitting .193 as a team.

Delaware State Slips Past UMES, 3-2
DOVER, Del. - Delaware State put three players in double digits in kills as the Hornets shocked Maryland Eastern Shore, 3-2 (25-18, 21-25, 25-21, 21-25, 15-13), at Memorial Hall Friday.
The loss is the Hawks' first in MEAC play since Nov. 9, 2006 against Morgan State, snapping the nation's longest conference winning streak at 36 matches. UMES drops to 17-10 and 6-1 in the league while Delaware State improves to 12-10 and 5-1.
Erica Tajman led the three DSU players in double figures with 19 kills Jessica Croucher and Elisa Hermann also had 13 and 11, respectively, in the win.
Delaware State outhit UMES .201-254 for the match despite a match- and career-high 26 kills from freshman Maline Vaitai. Vaitai also compiled a match-best .396 hitting percentage.
Herman threw in 11 digs for a double-double to pace the Hornets.
