Lady Aggies Fall To Flames

LYNCHBURG, Va. -
Liberty defeated North Carolina A&T 57-51, Tuesday night at the Vines Center.

For the third straight season, the Lady Aggies shot below 40 percent from the floor against the Liberty Flames. The Flames didn't shoot the ball any better, but were still able to come away with the victory.

The Lady Aggies shooting touch wasn't the only thing missing. The Lady Aggies played without leading scorer Tweet Cook who sat out with an injury. In her absence, freshman JaQuayla Berry led the Lady Aggies with 14 points. Junior forward Jaleesa Sams finished with 11 on 5-for-6 shooting.

Both teams shot the ball well before defense began to take control of the action. The Lady Aggies held the Flames to 29 percent shooting in the second half. Despite the Lady Aggies defensive intensity, they could not grab the lead in the second half.

The Lady Aggies (6-7) cut the lead to one at 37-36 five minutes into the second half. A 10-2 run over the next minutes helped the Flames take a nine-point lead as a Devon Brown tip-in put the Flames ahead 47-38.

Winston-Salem State Falls At North Carolina Central 67-58

DURHAM, N.C. - It was rivalry week renewed Tuesday night at McLendon-McDougald gymnasium as the Lady Rams and Lady Eagles, a pair of the most heated of basketball rivals, revisited their long-standing head-to-head women's basketball competition in a matchup that saw NCCU emerge victorious by the score of 67-58.

The two teams traded leads six times and found the score deadlocked on five other occasions during the first 20 minutes of play as WSSU and NCCU combined to scorch the nets from long range as the Lady Rams and Lady Eagles hit eight of 16 attempts from behind the three point line.

Neither team would lead by more than five points in the period and it would be the visiting Lady Rams, riding a 17-point contribution from a pair of junior guards, who would hold the advantage at halftime as a nine-point performance from MaLisa Bumpus and an eight-point contribution from Nikki Kee gave WSSU the 32-29 edge at the intermission.
