MEAC Announces Bowling Weekly Honors

Florida A&M University sophomore Samantha Mighty  and University of Maryland Eastern Shore junior Martha Perez were named the MEAC Bowling Co-Athletes of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday.

Mighty (5-5, So., Brooklyn, New York) was named the Most Valuable Player at the Fred Underwood Lady Bulldog Classic hosted by Bowie State. Mighty tallied a 215.0 average on 1,077 total pinfall. Against Morgan State, she recorded a career-high 276 and followed that performance with two 200-plus games against Cheyney and St. Paul's.

Perez (5-9, Jr., Bogota, Columbia) knocked down 1,065 pins and averaged a 213 to earn All-Tournament honors at the Fred Underwood Lady Bulldog Classic hosted by Bowie State. Perez guided her team to a 10-0 mark and set a career-high 278 in a win over Lincoln (Pa.). This is the second straight week that Perez has earned Athlete of the Week accolades.

Other Top Performers:

Maria Rodriguez (UMES) 1.043 pins and averaged 208.6 while earning All-Tournament honors at the  Fred Underwood Lady Bulldog Classic hosted by Bowie State.

Sheila Marie Smith (NSU) bowled a 204 with 1,020 pinfall to aid the Spartans to a seventh place finish at the Fred Underwood Lady Bulldog Classic hosted by Bowie State.

Brianna Uzzell (How) totaled 945 and averaged a 189 at the Fred Underwood Lady Bulldog Classic hosted by Bowie State.
