Lady Rams Fall to North Carolina A&T in 79-53 Loss
WINSTON-SALEM, NC - There just wasn't enough offense for the Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (2-17) as the team took a 79-53 home loss to the rival North Carolina A&T Lady Aggies (12-7, 6-0 MEAC), Monday evening.
The Lady Rams had a solid shooting night and connected on 20-of-53 shots. The junior tandem of guard MaLisa Bumpus and forward Vontisha Woods recorded 15 points each in the game to lead the way for the Lady Rams. Woods completed the double-double with 10 rebounds in the game. Fellow junior Rene Rector added eight points off the bench as well. The Lady Rams were solid on the boards with 27 total rebounds in the game.
The Lady Rams got off to a slow start to the game, falling into an early 13-3 deficit in the game's early minutes, but they were able to battle their way back into the contest when a lay-up by junior forward Jalesa Byrd capped a 12-4 WSSU run that pulled the Lady Rams back into the game, 23-21 with 8:21 left in the first half. However, the Lady Rams would get no closer as the Lady Aggie offense would kick back into gear and left the Lady Rams holding a 48-33 deficit at the half.
The second half saw the Lady Rams' frustrations continue with North Carolina A&T pushing their lead to 20 points midway through the period. The Lady Rams continued their push, but a late WSSU shooting drought pulled the game out of reach for the Lady Rams as the team finished the night with the 79-53.

Failed Opportunties Doom Howard in Loss To Bethune-Cookman
Washington, DC-January 25-Zykia Brown scored a game-high 20 points and Saadia Doyle recorded her 12th double-double (10 points and 14 rebounds) of the season, but a combination of missed opportunities and turnovers proved to be too much to overcome as Bethune-Cookman (8-10 overall, 4-3 in the MEAC) edged Howard, 48-47 in a MEAC game at Burr Gymnasium.
The Lady Bison (8-10 overall, 4-3 in the MEAC) were coming off a close, hard-fought 69-68 overtime win over Florida A&M on Saturday and were inspired by the return of their leader and leading scorer, Brown, who had missed the game with an ankle injury.
The 5-8 junior guard got Howard off to a good start by scoring 15 of her team's first half points. But B-CU matched the Lady Bison as they hung tough to trail 26-24 at intermission.
In the second half, Howard had several opportunities to build a cushion, but each time they attempted to put some distance between them and the visitors, turnovers and missed easy shots allowed Bethune-Cookman to stay within striking distance.
The Lady Wildcats parlayed several hustle plays with the scoring of Jalisa Isaac, who led her team with 13, and Euneshia Proctor, who scored eight key points. Jasmine Bugg came off the Bethune-Cookman bench to score nine points.
