NORFOLK, Va. - Junior Arsenio Culver picked up the first singles win of the season for the Spartans, but it was not enough to overcome East Carolina on Friday evening at ODU's Folkes-Stevens Indoor Tennis Center. The Pirates won, 5-1.

Culver topped ECU's Jaroslav Horvath 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. But the Pirates took the other four singles matches in straight sets and won by default at No. 6 to drop NSU to 0-2 on the season. Doubles matches were not played.

The Spartans have of until Feb. 12, when they take on Hampton in Newport News.
