VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., January 18, 2010 - Howard University's Calvin Thompson was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. Dadrian Collins, also of Howard, and DeWayne Jackson of Morgan State earned Co-Rookie of the Week accolades. Morgan State's Kevin Thompson earned Defensive Player of the Week honors, respectively.
C. Thompson (G, 6-3, 175, So., New Orleans, La.) averaged 24 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in two conference wins last week. He recorded a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds in 31 minutes in a 59-53 win against Coppin State. He followed that performance with a career-high 33 points while also grabbing seven rebounds in a 82-77 win against North Carolina A&T. In the two wins, Thompson shot 50-percent (13-of-26) from the field, connected on 4-of-8 from 3-point range and 85 percent (18-of-21) from the free-throw line.
Collins (F, 6-5, 190, Fr., Williamsburg, Va.) averaged 16.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.0 steals in two conference victories over Coppin State and North Carolina A&T. He recorded 18 points, shooting 7-of-16 from the floor, against the CSU Eagles.
Jackson (F, 6-8, 210, Fr., Bowie, Md.) averaged 14.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.0 blocked shots in two conference victories over Hampton and S.C. State. He scored a game-high 19 points, connecting on 5-of-10 (50-percent) from the floor with five rebounds and two steals in 28 minutes of play.
K. Thompson (F, 6-8, 235, So., Baltimore, Md.) collected his 11th double-double rebounding game of the season finishing with 20 boards along with 14 points and two blocks in a win over S.C. State. He also hauled down a game-high nine boards with 11 points earlier last week against Hampton.
Other Top Performances
Sean Berry (UMES) averaged 10 points and 10 rebounds and fell one rebound shy of posting back-to-back double-doubles in games against Winston-Salem State and Florida A&M.
Tim Burns (UMES) averaged 14.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, and three assists in two games last week for the Hawks.
Michael Deloach (NSU) averaged 20 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.5 steals and 2.5 assists in two conference wins over FAMU and Hampton last week.
Marques Oliver (DSU) scored 16 points, connected on 8-of-9 baskets, with eight rebounds, three blocked shots and two steals in a 66-65 win over Bethune-Cookman.
Kyle O'Quinn (NSU) grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds with three blocked shots in a 78-65 win over Florida A&M.
Neal Pitt (UMES) recorded a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds against Winston-Salem State.
Christopher Walker (FAMU) posted a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds against Norfolk State.
Chad Wilson (DSU) averaged 16.5 points, connecting on 7-of-13 baskets from long range, in two conference wins last week.
