Lady Rams Fall to Maryland Eastern Shore, 65-38

PRINCESS ANNE, MD - The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (2-13) couldn't find an answer in a 65-38 loss against Maryland Eastern Shore (4-7), Monday evening. For the second straight game, the Lady Rams found points hard to come by as the team was handcuffed by the UMES defense that held WSSU to shooting 23.1% from the field in the game.

Though the Lady Rams remained aggressive in the game, putting up 52 shots in the game, but the team struggled to get the shots to fall as the team hit just 12 of those shots while committing 15 turnovers in the contest. As a team, the Lady Rams managed just three assists in the game. The loss came in spite of some great individual efforts by the Lady Rams as junior forward Vontisha Woods led the way with 13 points in the loss. She took advantage of the UMES charity in the game, connecting on 9-of-10 shots from the free throw line. Fellow junior guard MaLisa Bumpus also had a great effort with 10 points. Lady Hornets Beat Lady Bulldogs, 51-50

Dover, Del. (Jan. 11, 2010) --- Brittany Washington had 18 points in just 23 minutes of action, and the Hornets would need every one of them as the Delaware State Lady Hornets defeated the South Carolina State Bulldogs 51-50 on Monday night at Memorial Hall in Dover.

Washington would be the standout for the Hornets (3-12, 1-1 MEAC), picking up 10 boards as well for her third double-double of the season.  Freshman forward Kianna D'Oliveira also had a career day, tying a career high with nine points and adding a career record with seven rebounds.

In what was a back and forth first half, the Hornets stood steadfast with their defense, which entered the contest #1 in the MEAC.  The 24-20 lead for DSU at the break was attributable to the 13-5 turnover differential between the sides, buoyed by six steals by the red and blue.  But the Hornets were unable to convert those opportunities to a larger lead, shooting only 8-28 from the floor in the opening half.
