Hornets Sting Rams In Wire To Wire Victory
Dover, Del. (Jan. 9, 2010) --- Selena Galloway's 14 points would lead the way offensively, but it was the team defense of Delaware State that would make the difference as the Lady Hornets defeated the Winston-Salem State Rams 57-39 on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Hall.
Four different Hornets would notch at least eight points, and 10 different red and blue players saw at least double digit minutes on the day. Freshman forward Kianna D'Oliveira's layup at 18:05 of the first half gave the Hornets the 2-0 lead, one they would never relinquish throughout the contest.
The opening half saw eight different Hornets tally points, including six from D'Oliveira on 3-4 shooting. Cortney Crockett's layup, steal, and coast-to-coast layup on the other end extended the Hornet lead to 18-7 with 9:36 remaining. The MEAC's #1 team defensively showed their prowess in front of their own goal again, outrebounding the Lady Rams 20-14, and forcing 13 turnovers while committing only six themselves. Winston-Salem would keep the game within range down 31-22 at the break behind a perfect first half from WSSU's Vontisha Woods, who was 3-3 from the floor and 4-4 from the charity stripe for 10 points.

But back-to-back misses by Batavia Owens (Norfolk, Va.) and Hackley deflated NSU's momentum and allowed B-CU to regain a double-digit lead (48-38) after a free throw by Euneshia Proctor with 14:21 left.
NSU could get no closer than 15 the rest of the way. A jumper by Tyisha Bridges (Greensboro, N.C.) with 47 seconds left ended the scoring for the game.

Adams Leads Morgan State to Win Over Howard
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Corin Adams missed the start of the game but it did not matter as she went on to score a team-high 23 points and lead Morgan State to a 57-48 win over Howard MEAC women's game at Burr Gymnasium.
Adams, a 5-7 senior guard and the second leading scorer in the MEAC, had to take an exam and got caught in traffic. That prevented her from starting the game. It did not take her long to get the Lady Bears (5-8 overall, 2-0 in the MEAC) started. She entered the game with her team trailing and promptly scored 11 of her points during a 10-minute span that gave Morgan State a 28-15 halftime lead.
The Lady Bison (5-8 overall, 1-1) had problems scoring, missing 25 of their 29 shots for a frigid 13 percent. Howard's problems were compounded by the loss of Saadia Doyle, who picked up two fouls in the first three minutes and had to sit out most of the half and some cold shooting by team-leading scorer Zykia Brown, who missed all six of her shots from the field.
Howard staged a second half rally on the scoring of Brown and Doyle, who combined for 17 of their team's 33 second half points and got to within seven twice. But Adams and Brittany Noel made sure that the Lady Bison would stage another one of their patented second half comebacks.
