Spartans Fall to Sacred Heart, UMES

Norfolk State dropped two matches on Saturday in the Maryland Eastern Shore Volleyball Invitational at the W.P. Hytche Center. The Spartans (2-14) lost 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-20) to Sacred Heart (9-6) in the first match of the day, then fell 3-0 (25-23,25- 20, 25-12) to host UMES (10-6) in the late match.

Against Sacred Heart, Ellica Morris the Spartans with seven kills, while Kristen Burt had a career-high four block assists and matched her career-best with nine digs. Annie Archer tallied a game-high nine kills for Sacred Heart and Jessica Colberg had a match-high 14 digs.

In the UMES match, Charlotte Armstead and Morris had a team-high eight kills. Nicole Kessner had 25 of NSU's 27 assists and added four digs and three kills.

Whitney Johnson recorded a match-high 12 kills, while Caylin Woodward had a double-double of 11 digs and 10 kills for UMES. Bella Jade Romero was the other Lady Hawk in double figures with 34 assists.

The Spartans return home after a month-long hiatus when they host North Carolina Central next Saturday at 3 p.m.
