Lady Rams Battle in Four Set Loss to North Carolina Central

The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (1-16) gave the host North Carolina Central Lady Eagles (3-13) all they could handle in a four-set match at the Walker Complex in Durham, N.C.

The Lady Rams battled back from a tough 14-25 loss in the first set to take a 25-21 win in the second set. However, the Lady Rams didn't have enough left to finish the match, falling to the Lady Eagles, 17-25, and 18-25 in the final set.

Though the Lady Rams ended the day with the loss, the team had a great effort in the match with 33 team kills and just 23 attack errors. The Lady Rams didn't, however, have enough ammunition to keep up with a tough North Carolina Central team that totaled 42 kills and committed just 22 errors in the match.

Several Lady Ram players enjoyed strong efforts in the loss. Sophomore setter Alexandria Brown coordinated the WSSU attack with 20 assists while senior hitter Annika Barnwell reaped the benefits with 15 kills. Junior libero Lakeisha Hawes led the WSSU defensive effort with 11 digs while sophomore Georgette Allen added a team-high two solo blocks and a block assist.

The Lady Rams won't have much time to rest, as the team will return to action later this afternoon when they take on the Delaware State Lady Hornets in a 5 p.m. match at the Walker Complex on the campus of North Carolina Central.
