This October, hundreds of teams from around the country will participate in the Dig Pink National Breast Cancer Awareness Rally. The Delaware State Lady Hornets volleyball team will be partnering up with the Side-Out Foundation to promote breast health education in the community. The "Dig Pink" match will take place on October 9 when DSU squares off against Maryland Eastern Shore.
The Lady Hornets and Lady Hawks will join over 500 volleyball teams across the country in the fight against breast cancer. The match is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. but fans are encouraged to arrive early to enjoy the festivities.
A complimentary pink t-shirt will be given out to the first 300 fans through the doors of Memorial Hall. Fans are encouraged to support the cause at the door, with all proceeds benefiting "Dig Pink". These proceeds will be distributed among research teams focused on target therapies and molecular profiling as well as "living with cancer" organizations nationwide. All fans are also encouraged to wear something pink to show their support for breast cancer awareness.
"The key to beating cancer is early detection and research in the fight against this disease," said DSU coach Renee Arnold. "We want to do our part as ambassadors for those in our community, I understand the importance of this fight and I am proud to have our team and university support such a great cause."
If you can not make it to this special match and would still like to help the DSU volleyball team reach its goal, please consider donating online at the Hornets site - www.side-out.org/application/teams/team_page/641!
Side-Out Foundation
The Side-Out Foundation, a national 501(c)(3) located in the Washington DC Metropolitan Area. They have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for breast cancer research nationally through volleyball tournaments, clinics, and rallies. The name underscores the purpose of the organization - "Side-Out" in volleyball occurs when one team wins a point while its opponent is serving, thereby regaining serve or control of play. Likewise in the war against breast cancer, the Side-Out Foundation will support health care professionals in their pursuit of practical solutions for women and men with this dreaded disease thus enabling those affected to regain control of their lives and living them to the fullest.
