Lady Hornets Fall to Explorers

Despite a season high 10 kills for junior outside hitter Jessica Barnes, Delaware State dropped their fourth straight match falling at LaSalle 3-0 (26-24, 26-24, 25-19) on Tuesday night in Philadelphia.

Each team averaged over 10 hitting and service errors per set and the Explorers (3-15) out hit the Lady Hornets .102 to .068.  LaSalle's Rachel Stemper led all players with 12 kills on 47 attacks, and also notched a match high 27 digs.

Stemper also raised her game in the clutch, scoring the last four points with a block solo and three kills for the Explorers who were trailing 23-22 late in the first set.   Hornet libero Martina Ferrari continued her quality play of late, picking up 25 digs in the alternate jersey.  Barnes also chipped in five digs during what was her best match statistically of the season.

The Lady Hornets (6-9) will look to right the ship this weekend against at the North Carolina Central Tournament in Durham, NC.  A previously scheduled match against SIU-Edwardsville has been cancelled, leaving DSU to face N.C. A & T and Winston-Salem State on Friday, and host North Carolina Central on Saturday.
