Lady Rams Fall Short Against UNC-Greensboro

Winston-Salem State (0-3) found points hard to come by in a 3-0 loss to the local rival UNC-Greensboro Spartans (2-2), Tuesday evening. Though the Lady Rams challenged the Spartans all match long, the Lady Rams' offense came up short, falling to 17-25, 12-25, and 15-25.

The Lady Rams got off to a strong start to the match as the team fought their way to within four points of the Spartans, 10-14. However, a 6-0 run by the Spartans would put the set out of reach for the Lady Rams as the team was outscored 11-7 in the final stretch of the set. The second set was the toughest for the Lady Rams as the team saw a 10-5 lead demolished by a 17-2 Spartan run.

The third set saw the Lady Rams return from a rough start to the set, but the effort was not enough for the team. After allowing four unanswered points to the Spartans, the Lady Rams battled back to tie the set, 4-4. The WSSU effort was not enough, however, as the team saw UNC-Greensboro score eight unanswered points and left the Lady Rams trailing 4-12. The Lady Rams were able to finish the match strong, but were never able to get back into the set as the Spartans outscored the Lady Rams 13-11 to finish the match.

WSSU sophomore middle blocker Jasmine Frazier led the WSSU attack with six kills and a solo block. She was also strong on defense with nine digs. Barnwell added nine digs as well.

The Lady Rams will return to action at the 2009 High Point Classic hosted by High Point.

The Lady Rams will open play against the Charlotte 49ers in a 2 p.m. match.
