MEAC Announces Weekly Volleyball Honors

Delaware State senior Cassandra Joyner was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Player of the week, the conference announced on Monday. Maryland Eastern Shore's Bella Jade Romero earned Rookie of the Week accolades.

Joyner (MH, 6-0, Sr., Claymont, Delaware) led her team to a 3-0 mark and was named the Most Valuable Player at the Hornet Invitational. Joyner notched the 1000th kill of her career in a 3-0 victory over Norfolk State. She followed that performance with a double-double of 15 kills and 11 digs in a 3-1 win over Navy. For the week, she was 41-of-77 (.429) from the floor and totaled 14 blocks (six solo), four aces and 19 digs.

Romero (S, 5-6, Fr., Arlington, Texas) averaged 9.67 assists and 2.2 digs per set to lead the Lady Hawks to a 3-0 mark at the Hornet Invitational. She posted 87 assists, 20 digs, four aces and three blocks during the three matches.

Other Top Performers:

Jarne Gleaton (SCSU) recorded 31 kills, six blocks and 15 digs to aid the Lady Bulldogs to a 2-1 mark at the ASU Hornet Invitational.

Whitney Johnson (UMES) hit .453 from the floor, tallied 29 kills, five digs and three aces at the Hornet Invitational.

Jade Sandford (SCSU) hit .288 (24-of-52) and added 10 blocks to guide the Lady Bulldogs to their first wins of the season at the ASU Hornet Invitational.

Ivana Suput (Ham) recorded 16 digs in a loss to William & Mary.


Chelle Ticeson (B-CU) totaled 35 kills, six digs and three aces to lead the Lady Wildcats to their first two victories of the season at the ASU Hornet Invitational.

Adriana Vasquez (Ham) posted 13 kills and 14 digs in three matches for the Lady Pirates last week.
