Lady Pirates Fall to Maryland, 3-0

Hampton lost to Maryland 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-10) in its first match of the Georgetown Classic on Friday.

Maryland had 13 kills as a team in the third set in 19 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .474. Hampton never managed better than a .147 (10 kills, five errors, 34 attacks) in the first set.

Adriana Vazquez and Brittany Wynne each led the Lady Pirates (2-5) with seven kills. Wynne led the team with a .176 hitting percentage, with only four errors in 17 total attacks. Aaryn Harrison had four kills.

Of Hampton's 89 assists, Lihi Elkayam had 71 to lead the team. Ivana Suput led the Lady Pirates with nine of the team's 27 digs on defense.

Maddi Lee led Maryland with nine kills, while Kara Bates and Katie Usher each had eight. Taylor Jones had 46 assists, while Sharon Strizak added 41.

Hampton has lost five straight matches after opening the season 2-0.

The Lady Pirates will return to action on Saturday, when they face Georgetown at 1 p.m. and William & Mary at 5 p.m.
