Howard defeated North Carolina Central 3-1 (18-25, 25-23, 25-13, 25-18) Thursday evening in Durham, N.C.
After dropping the first set, Howard jumped out to an 11-4 lead in the second stanza on kills by Tosin Elebute and Taylor Montgomery.
Howard later pushed its lead to seven points after capitalizing on a pair of service errors by the Eagles.
North Carolina Central (1-7) cut the lead to one at 23-22 but an Elebute kill combined with an attack error by NCCU's Belin Behncke-Biney sealed the win for the Bison.
Howard made easy work of the Eagles in the third matchup and took a 12-point lead en route to the 25-13 win. A kill by Keri Partridge put Howard up by seven at 19-12 and after a Bison error trimmed the lead to six, NCCU gave up six points on miscues to end the set.
The Bison never relinquished the lead in the fourth and final set. Kills by junior Gazelle d'Artois gave Howard a 22-17 lead, forcing a timeout by NCCU. A kill by Partridge gave HU the set and match win.
Howard (1-8) next competes at the VB Rags Western Carolina Invitational. Tourney play pits HU against Cleveland State and Gardner-Webb on Friday. The Lady Bison wrap up competition with a contest against the host Catamounts on Saturday.
