Coppin State Director of Athletics Derrick Ramsey announced the hiring of Bob Ullman as the school's head softball coach on Tuesday.
Ullman, a veteran player and coach, spent the 2009 season as an assistant coach at Coppin State prior to being promoted to head coach.
"We are pleased to have Bob as a head coach at Coppin State," said Ramsey. "We saw the work ethic and enthusiasm he brought to the job as an assistant coach last year and feel he is the right person to turn our program around."
Coppin State finished the 2009 season with a 5-27 overall record and a 2-11 mark in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.
Ullman spent five years as a player in the Amateur Softball Association of America and the International Softball Congress playing for the Reading Sunners, the Class Walls and the Maryland Masters. The Maryland Masters team was the ASA National runner-up in 1996 and 1997 and Ullman earned all-America honors in 1997.
Ullman has coached Shanytown of Baltimore, the Maryland Hurricanes and the Lady Orioles during his career.
He is married to Janet Marie Ullman and they have five children, Brittany, Arika, Brett, Breanna and Connar.
Ullman replaces Ajaye Pope who was the Coppin State head coach from 2007-09.
