Florida A&M dropped their final two matches in the Florida State Invitational against Central Michigan, 3-2 (21-25, 25-23,22-25, 25-22, 12-15) in the afternoon match up and fell to cross town rival Florida State in the night cap, 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-19), Saturday at Tully Gymnasium.
FAMU (0-3) pushed Central Michigan to five straight sets, with CMU winning the first set 25-21, before the Lady Rattler bounced back in set number two winning 25-23. Then CMU edged FAMU, 25-22, in set three, but the Lady Rattlers were able to pull out the fourth set, 25-22. In the fifth and final set, the Chippewas edged the Lady Rattlers, 15-12.
FAMU was paced by Jovanna Blazeski as she led the team in both kills and digs with 21 kills and 18 digs. Maria Gomez added 15 kills and tallied 10 digs, while Jessica Bond finished with a team high 50 assists.
CMU (1-2) had a quintet of players to finish in double-digit kills led by Lauren Krupsky with 18, followed by Kaithlyn Hurt with 16. Danielle Gotham tallied 11kills, with the duo of Kaitlyn Schultz and Lindsey Dulude with 10 kill apiece. Alexis Lonneman led the team in digs, while Catherine Ludwig finished with a team high 55 assists.
In the nightcap against Florida State, FAMU was paced by Gomez with 12 kills. Bond led the team in assists, while Susan Egoavil finished with a team high six digs.
Florida State (3-0 ) was led by Rachel Morgan with 10 kills, while Nikki Baker finished with a team high 20 assists. Jenna Romanelli finished with a team high 11 digs.
The Lady Rattlers will return to action, when they travel DeLand, Fla., to participate in the Stetson Invitational, Friday, Sept 4, through Saturday Sept. 5.
