Hampton Falls To Bethune-Cookman, 3-0

The Hampton University softball team fell to the Lady Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman 3-0 in the opening round of the 2009 MEAC Championship on Thursday at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex.

 

Allison Garcia got Bethune-Cookman on the board in the bottom of the first inning with an RBI single up the middle before scoring on a single to right field by Liz Parrish. Garcia would score again in the third inning on a wild pitch.

 

Garcia scattered six hits over seven innings on the mound to pick up the win. She struck out eight and walked none. Garcia and Parrish each had two hits for the Lady Wildcats (18-34).

 

No Lady Pirate had more than one hit at the plate. Amanda Black went six innings in picking up the loss, giving up eight hits and three runs ? two earned ? while striking out four.

 

The Lady Pirates (23-22) will play again at 4:30, when they take on Norfolk State in the consolation bracket.

 

Bethune-Cookman moves on to face the northern divisional champion Howard Lady Bison.
