Howard, Florida A&M Advance in MEAC Softball Championship

The 2009 MEAC Softball Championship is underway at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex in Ormond Beach, Florida.

During the morning games, Florida A&M topped Maryland Eastern Shore 10-2 and will meet the winner of the Delaware State/Norfolk State game which is currently underway.

The Lady Rattlers used a four-run first and five-run third to barrel past Maryland Eastern Shore, 10-2 in five innings in the first game of the 2009 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Softball Tourney, Thursday morning at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex.
 
FAMU (26-29)  finished with 11 hits, led by Rhianna Green with three hits, followed by Alesha Wells, Brianna Weaver and Shayla Clark finished with two hits each.
   
Amanda Reyes (18-17), the 2009 MEAC Pitcher of the Year, picked up the win for FAMU, allowing three hits and striking out six in five innings.
 
Mishayla Truttman (3-6) got the loss for the UMES (20-17), giving up six hits, six earned runs and striking out one in two innings of work.

In the second game of the morning, the Howard Lady Bison defeated the Lady Aggies of North Carolina A&T.

Rebecca Kirshner was 3-for-3 with two runs and Nicole Saezz added two hits, while Carly earned a complete game after allowing four hits and striking out five for Howard. The win was the ninth straight for the streaking Lady Bison.

North Carolina A&T's Jennifer Luper (15-11) took the loss. Luper allowed seven hits, three runs and walked one in six innings at the mound.
