Kristina Frahm is more than a National Champion; she is a student-athlete. The student portion rings true for the sophomore athlete who carries a 3.94 GPA in business administration at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES). Her outstanding GPA and athletic skill combined to earn her a nod as a Second Team selection for the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team.
Frahm was nominated in the women's at-large division, an area existing for sports that are not covered in the College Sports Information Director's Association (CoSIDA) other Academic All-District and All-American categories. First-team winners included students from Navy, UMBC, Drexel, Princeton, Robert Morris, Rider, Bucknell and Fairleigh Dickinson and Saint Francis (Pa.). Three of those athletes carried a 4.0 while three others were above a 3.9 GPA.
CoSIDA selects a first, and a possible second and third team, in a University Division (comprised of DI programs) and in a College Division (non DI programs). They do this nationally in eight separate districts depending on the number of entries in a district.
Frahm was also solid athletically. Coming of a National Tenpins Coaches Association (NTCA) Rookie of the Year and First-Team All-American honors in 2008 when UMES was National Champions, she was named an Honorable Mention All-American again in 2009 and was also named a second-team All-Conference performer.
