South Carolina State’s Ivan Milivojevic and Howard’s Michele Gee were chosen as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Tennis Athletes of the Week, the league announced on Thursday. Howard’s Omar Haloui and Ashley Moore were named the Rookies of the Week.
Milivojevic (Sr., Novi Sad, Serbia) led South Carolina State to a 2-0 mark last week with wins over Florida A&M and Winthrop. Against Florida A&M, Milivojevic won in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 over Artiom Podgainii at the number one position. The win clinched the southern division for the Bulldogs and concluded conference play with an unblemished 3-0 mark. Milivojevic followed that victory with a three set win over Winthrop’s Roy Sichel (6-7, 6-2, 1-0).
Gee (Jr., Staten Island, New York) earned a 3-0 mark in singles action last week with victories over Maryland Eastern Shore’s Solana McMillian (6-2, 6-2), Hampton’s Maria Ycaza (6-0, 6-0) and Delaware State’s Cristina Pires (7-6, 2-6, 6-4) at the number three singles position.
Haloui (Fr., Miami, Florida) led the Bison to a 2-2 mark last week. He extended his conference win streak to four with three victories in straight sets against Maryland Eastern Shore, Hampton and Delaware State. His lone loss of the week was in non-conference match against UMBC where he fell in straight sets (4-6, 3-6).
Moore (Fr., Miami, Florida) recorded two victories last week at the number one singles position. Against Maryland Eastern Shore, she topped Aissatou Ba in straight sets 6-1, 6-0.
She followed that performance with a win over Delaware State’s Anna Kovtun (6-1, 6-4).
