Delaware State bowling coach Kim Terrell-Kearney has been nationally-recognized for leading the Hornets to a historic 2008-09 season. The National Tenpins Coaches Association (NTCA) named Terrell-Kearney as its 2009 Coach of the Year during the NCAA Tournament Banquet Wednesday evening.
The NTCA also announced its 2008-09 All-America teams during the affair.
Delaware State’s Angela Reynolds and Adriana Jaime were named to the NTCA All-America Second Team, while Kalyn Washburn was a Third Team pick. DSU’s Jazmyne Hefflefinger was an honorable mention selection.
Terrell-Kearney, who was named 2008-09 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Coach-of-the-Year last month, has led the Hornets to a school-record 117 wins (117-36) and first-ever appearance in the NCAA Women’s Bowling Championship Tournament this season. DSU also captured its first MEAC Tournament championship last month.
The Hornets, No. 4 in the latest NTCA poll of Top 20 teams, also took first place in the ECAC, Arkansas State and Kutztown Tournaments during the 2008-09 season.
Jaime, Reynolds and Hefflefinger were also named to the 2008-09 All-MEAC First Team, while Washburn was a second team pick. Jaime was also voted as the league’s Rookie of the Year
Jaime leads the Hornets with a 197.3 per-game average. Reynolds is second at 193.8. Washburn carries a 193.6 average, while Hefflefinger’s is 190.9.
The 2009 NCAA Tournament gets underway Thursday at Super Bowl Lanes in Canton, Michigan. The championship match is set for Saturday evening (Apr. 11).
