The Hampton/Delaware State softball matchup marks the fourth consecutive season the MEAC has televised a softball game on the college sports network.

The defending MEAC Tournament Champion DSU Lady Hornets are currently tied with Morgan State for the top of the MEAC northern divisional standings with a 5-1 mark and 19-15 record.  The Lady Hornets are riding a four-game win streak, winning seven of the last nine games.  Sophomore outfielder Andrea Waters leads the Lady Hornets in hitting with a .364 average and is the conference leader in stolen bases with 16-of-16 attempts.

Hampton, last year’s northern divisional winner, currently sits at third in the northern division with a 5-3 MEAC record, 18-18 overall.  The Lady Pirates are led by last year’s Pitcher of the Year Amanda Black.  Black leads the MEAC in wins with a mark of 14-1 and ranks third in ERA (.230) in 28 appearances.  Freshman infielder Kelsei Sanders leads Hampton at the plate with a .379 hitting percentage and a conference high 10 home runs.

The 2009 MEAC Softball Championship is slated for May 7-9 at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex, 700 Hull Road, in Ormond Beach, Florida.  The top four teams in both divisions will challenge one another in a double elimination tournament for the conference title.
