MEAC Announces Weekly Softball Honors

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.,  ? North Carolina A&T State’s Tangie Conover earned MEAC Softball Player of the Week honors, the league announced Monday.  Jasmin Donaldson of Florida A&M was named the Rookie of the Week while Allie Garcia of Bethune-Cookman was named the Pitcher of the Week.

Conover (3B, 5-6, Jr., Summerville, S.C.) led the Aggies to two conference victories over South Carolina State last week.  Conover batted .750 from the plate including one home run, two doubles, and six RBI.  In game one of the double-header Conover was perfect from the plate (1.000) hitting 5-for-5 with one home run and four RBI.  She also added two putouts and five assists in the two games.

Donaldson (IF/OF, 5-2, Fr., Rockledge, Fla.) led the Lady Rattlers to back-to-back victories over Winston-Salem State.  She hit 5-of-8 (.625) in addition to one RBI and one stolen base.  She also tallied two putouts.

Garcia (P, 5-7, So., Chino Hills, Calif.) picked up back-to-back wins with victories over Norfolk State last week.  She pitched 15 innings with an ERA of 1.00 and shut out the Spartans in the first game. She faced 61 batters, striking out 10, and allowed just one earned run in the doubleheader. She also proved to be an impact at the plate as she finished with a .571 hitting average, posting two doubles and two RBI. 

Other Top Performances

Rhianna Green (FAMU) hit 4-for-5 (.800) from the plate with one double, one RBI and one stolen base to help the Lady Rattlers post a win over Winston-Salem State.

Sasha Philpot (NCAT) picked up the win against South Carolina State after pitching seven innings and allowing no earned runs with eight strike outs and just three walks.

Amanda Reyes (FAMU) struck out a career nine batters, with an ERA of 1.00, in a 5-1 win over Winston-Salem State.
