Record Season Continues For Hawk Tennis

University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) men's and women's tennis programs defeated Coppin State Saturday night to improve to four wins on the season.

The men came from behind to earn their 4-3 victory over the Eagles.  Down 3-0, Marquet Robinson sparked the rally in #4 singles, defeating Oshain Blake in straight sets (6-0, 6-0).

Following in the juniors footsteps was freshman Osvaldo Rivera, who also took down his opponent 6-0, 6-0.

Doubles play would decide the victor, after Richard Warren won his match on default to tie the teams up three games all.

With the Hawks dropping the first game 8-4, the phenomenal duo of Rivera and junior Rashad James took on CSU's #1 singles player Viktor Lemberger and Blake to decide the day.  UMES (4-9) outlasted the Eagles, pulling out the match 8-3.  The third and final doubles match was defaulted to Robinson and Warren, securing the Hawks win.

The Lady Hawks (4-10) dropped their first two games to CSU before Bolanle Abioye defeated her opponent to start the rally.  Solana McMillan and LaToya Coltrane then swept their opponents in straight sets (6-0, 6-0) to put UMES up 3-2.

Newcomer Paula Vilas won her #6 singles match on default, and then joined Latoya Jones Stewart in #2 doubles play.  The twosome's 8-4 victory helped secure the Lady Hawks 5-2 win over CSU.

UMES heads back home on April 12 to face University of D.C. for the final match of the regular season.  Play is scheduled to begin at noon.
