Bethune-Cookman’s Eva Hankova and Norfolk State’s Miroslav Vlcek were chosen as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Tennis Athletes of the Week, the league announced on Thursday. Hampton’s Maria Ycaza and Howard’s Tonique Merrill were named the Rookies of the Week.
Hankova (Jr., Prague, CZ) won two games to aid the Lady Wildcats to a 3-0 mark last week.
She defeated Lipscomb’s Elizabeth Keevil in straight sets (7-5, 6-1) and followed that performance with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over North Dakota’s Brynne Wicher at the number three singles position.
Vlcek (Sr., Vyskov, Czech Republic) guided the Spartans to two victories last week. He defeated North Carolina Central’s Jack Waissen in straight sets 6-4, 6-2 for the 4-3 win. Against James Madison, he topped Jared Robinson 6-1, 6-3.
Ycaza (Fr., Guayaquil, Ecuador) defeated Maryland Eastern Shore’s Bolanle Abioye at the number two singles position to help the Lady Pirates to a 6-1 victory.
Merrill (Fr., Newport News, Virginia) won his first singles victory of the year with a 6-3, 6-3 win over George Mason’s Matt Vaughn. He also teamed up with George Diggs to capture the doubles point in the 5-2 victory.

Na-Hyun Baek (Ham) aided the Lady Pirates to a 6-1 win over Maryland Eastern Shore with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at the number one singles spot.
Michael Gee (Howard) tallied his third victory of the season with a 6-2, 6-2 win at the number one singles position against George Mason.
Gellert Varga (Ham) won at the number five singles position in a win over Maryland Eastern Shore.
Stepanka Velebova (NSU) won at the number one singles and doubles position to aid the Spartans to a 6-1 win over North Carolina Central.
