Howard’s Eugene Myatt was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday. Coppin State’s Michael Harper was selected as the Rookie of the Week for the second straight week while the Bison’s Kandi Mukole was named the Defensive Player of the Week.
Myatt (G, 6-5, 210, Sr., Philadelphia, Pa.) averaged 28.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.0 steals in two conference matchups last week for Howard. He recorded a MEAC season high 41 points against the Coppin State, connecting on 12-of-18 shots including 6-of-8 from long range. He also posted 15 points, three rebounds, four assists and one steal against the North Carolina A&T.
Harper (G, 6-3, 195, Fr., Milwaukee, Wis.) scored 22 points, connecting on 7-of-13 shots from the field, with 5-of-10 from behind the arc, with five rebounds, one assist and one steal in a win over Maryland E. Shore. For the week he averaged 14 points, four rebounds and one steal to lead the Eagles to a 1-1 mark in conference play.
Mukole (F, 6-8, 215, Jr., Brussels, Belgium) averaged 9.5 rebounds, one block and one steal in two conference matchups last week for the Bison. He pulled down nine boards against Coppin State and recorded 10 against North Carolina A&T along with two steals and one blocked shot. Offensively he scored a total of 14 points, and was perfect from long range with 2-of-2 three-pointers against the Aggies.
Other Top Performances
Chris Conner (UMES) posted double digit scoring performances against Bethune-Cookman and Coppin State with 15 and 18 points respectively.
Thomas Coleman (NCAT) connected on 8-of-9 shots and averaged 11 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.0 blocks to help the Aggies extend the MEAC’s longest current win streak to eight.
Michael Deloach (NSU) scored 27 points, shooting 10-of-12 from the field and 4-of-5 from three-point range, with four rebounds, four assists and one steal as the Spartans completed the two-game sweep over local rival Hampton.
Jason Johnson (SCSU) averaged 16.5 points and 9.0 rebounds in two conference matchups for the Bulldogs.
Ed Jones (NCAT) scored 25 points, with 4-of-8 baskets from behind the arc, with three rebounds and three steals in the Aggies win over South Carolina State.
Kyle O’Quinn (NSU) was 5-of-6 from the field with 11 points and four rebounds in win a over Hampton.
Jimmy Williams (SCSU) averaged 10.5 points and 4.0 rebounds to aid the Bulldogs to a 1-1 mark last week.
