Maryland Eastern Shore’s Maria Rodriguez earned the 2009 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Year award, as voted by the league’s head coaches and sports information directors. Kim Terrell-Kearney of Delaware State was named the MEAC Coach of the Year, by her peers and Adriana Jamie, also of Delaware State was named the 2009 MEAC Rookie of the Year.
Maria Rodriguez led the league with14,032 total pinfall in 70 games. The sophomore earned MEAC Player of the Week accolades four times this season and bowled a game high 279 at the Bowie State Invitational, which ranks second in the MEAC. She rolled a 200 or better performance during six of 13 matches and aided her team to a 109-36 overall mark and 25-5 record in conference play.
Kim Terrell-Kearney led the Delaware State Lady Hornets to its first northern divisional regular-season crown with a 25-5 mark in conference play. In only her second year at the helm, the Lady Hornets concluded the regular season with their highest finish at 110-34 and are currently ranked fourth in the nation in the National Tenpins Coaches Association Poll (NTCA).
Adriana Jamie led her rookie counterparts with a 196.8 average in 63 games. The freshman knocked down 12,400 total pins and rolled a 200 or better performance in 10 of 12 matches played. In a win at the Bowie State Invitational, Jamie recorded a game high 256.
Joining Rodriguez and Jamie on the 2009 MEAC First-Team are Angela Reynolds (Delaware State), Kimberly Roe (Bethune-Cookman), and Jazmyne Hefflefinger (Delaware State).
The MEAC Second-Team consists of Kristina Frahm (Maryland E. Shore), Kalyn Washburn (Delaware State), Keisheena Waldon (Morgan State), Martha Perez (Maryland E. Shore), Sheila-Marie Smith (Norfolk State), and Autumn Glencamp (South Carolina State).
The 2009 MEAC Bowling Championship begins on Friday, March 20 at the Gate City Lanes in Greensboro, North Carolina with the qualifying round. Play continues on Saturday with teams competing in a best-of-seven Baker series. The championship concludes on Sunday, March 22 beginning with the semifinal round at 9:50 a.m. and concluding with the championship final at 11:45 a.m.
