MEAC Announces Basketball Weekly Honors

Howard’s Zykia Brown was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. Delaware State’s Sonia Johnson earned Rookie of the Week honors, while Bethune-Cookman’s Demetria Frank earned the Defensive Player of the Week accolade.

 

Brown (Guard, 5-8, So., Riverdale, Maryland) averaged 22.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 3.0 steals for the Lady Bison last week. Brown shot 40-percent from the field (14-of-35) and 81-percent (13-of-16) from the charity stripe. She recorded a career-high 32 points along with four rebounds, six assists and two steals in a win over Norfolk State. She followed that performance with 13 points, six assists and four steals against Maryland Eastern Shore.

 

Johnson (Forward, 5-9, Fr., Newport News, Virginia) averaged 20 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals to help the Lady Hornets to a 1-1 conference mark. She led her team in scoring with 21 points, four rebounds and three assists in a victory against Morgan State. In an overtime loss to Hampton she tallied 20 points, three assists and one steal.

 

Frank (Guard, 5-9, So., Miami, Florida) averaged 6.0 rebounds and 6.0 steals aiding the Lady Wildcats to a 2-0 mark last week. Against Winston-Salem State, Frank pulled down seven boards and grabbed four steals. She tied a MEAC season-high nine steals along with five rebounds and one blocked shot in a win over Norfolk State.  Offensively, she added 31 points and nine assists in the two games.

 

Other Top Performers:

Adobi Agbasi (UMES) scored a career-high 13 points (4-of-4) from the field in a loss to Coppin State.

 

Danielle Anders (CSU) averaged 20.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.5 blocks and 1.5 steals in two conference victories for the Lady Eagles.

 

Amber Bland (NCAT) averaged 15.5 points, nine rebounds and 2.5 steals in two victories for the Lady Aggies last week.

 

Sarah Bolden (B-CU) averaged 16 points and 7.5 rebounds in two wins last week.

 

Bernadette Fortune (HAM) averaged 15.5 points and 3.5 rebounds to help the Lady Pirates to a 1-1 mark. 

 

Natalie Day (HOW) tallied 17 points, 12 rebounds, five steals, one blocked shot and one assist in a win over Norfolk State.

 

April McBride (UMES) averaged a double-double of 20 points and 11.5 rebounds in two games for the Lady Hawks.

 

Quanneisha Perry (HAM) averaged 11 points and 14 rebounds last week for the Lady Pirates.
