Lady Hornets Win Kutztown Bowling Invitational

Delaware State claimed its second invitational championship in the last three weeks. The Hornets posted a 9-2 record, including a victory over Fairleigh-Dickinson in the final round, to win the championship of the Kutztown University Invitational on Sunday.

 

Delaware State, ranked fourth in the latest National Tenpins Coaches Association poll, defeated No. 3 Fairleigh-Dickinson 4-1 in the best-of-seven championship round. DSU was 2-0 vs. the Knights in the tournament. The Hornets also upended No. 7 New Jersey City during the tourney. Delaware State’s Jazmyne Hefflefinger and Brooke Peterson were named to the Kutztown Invitational All-Tournament Team.

 

Hefflefinger was third among all bowlers with a 200.67 average. She had three 200+ games, including a high of 224. Peterson was fourth in the tournament with a 199.33 average. She scored at least 200 in two contests, including a high of 240.

 

DSU’s Adriana Jaime (197.67) and Kalyn Washburn (197.33) were sixth and seventh, respectively, in the tournament. Delaware State also claimed the championship of the Arkansas State Mid-Winter Classic this season (Jan. 17-18), defeating No. 1 Vanderbilt and No. 2 Nebraska en route to the title.

 

The Hornets will return to the lanes this weekend when they host the Capital Classic (Feb. 7-8) at Brunswick Doverama.
