Lady Wildcats top Delaware State at Homecoming

 

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Lady Wildcats pulled ahead late in the game to take control and go on to defeat the Lady Hornets of Delaware State in today's Homecoming game.

 

Although DSU jumped out to an early double-digit lead, and held it throughout most of the game, the Lady Wildcats kept their heads and hearts in the game and took the lead with only few minutes remaining. B-CU held on to win on the power of crucial, made free throws, coming out on top 65-55.

Brown, Morgan and Daniels Help Howard Edge Morgan State

 

Washington, DC?Zykia Brown scored 14 of her game-high 19 points in the second half and Neal Morgan and Tamaya Daniels each added 12 as Howard edged Morgan State in a MEAC game at Burr Gymnasium.  The win was the second straight for the Lady Bison while the Lady Bears had their three-game win streak snapped.

 

The game was a nip-and-tuck affair from the beginning as there were nine ties and 10 lead changes.  The two teams were deadlocked at 30-all at the half.  Corin Adams provided much of the offense for Morgan State with 11 of her game-high 20 points while Neal (9 points) and Daniels (7) combined for 16 of Howard’s points.

 

Morgan State had to rely almost exclusively on the play of their backcourt of Adams (20 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists) and Erin Hawkins (13 points, 8 assists), who combined for 33 points and 12 assists between them.  No other Morgan State player reached double figures.

Aggies Get Back On Track By Running Over Rams

 

Greensboro, N.C. ?Ahmad Williams took a step back in time in her first start this season, scoring 17 points to lead the Aggies (19-6) to an 84-46 victory over archrival Winston-Salem State (3-23) at Corbett Sports Center.

 

Sophomore guard Rene Rector led the way for WSSU with 10 points at North Carolina A&T.

Payne's Career Night Snaps 26-Game Losing Streak, NSU Downs S.C. State 75-52

 

Norfolk State sophomore guard Raychele Payne scored a career-high 36 points to help the Spartans to their first win of the season, a 75-52 victory over South Carolina State, on Saturday afternoon at Echols Hall. The win snapped a 26-game losing streak that dated back to a 69-45 win over Winston-Salem State on Feb. 25, 2008.

 

Payne was 13-of-30 from the field, including 4-of-11 from 3-point range, and had 21 points in the first half.

 

Marie Reid led SCSU with 12 points, while Sophilia Hipps had 11 and Shantavious Wylie had 10.

Hampton Stuns Coppin State 80-63

 

HAMPTON, Va. -- Freshman Jerika Jenkins scored a career-high 27 points and Hampton snapped Coppin State's five-game winning streak with an 80-63 MEAC victory over the Eagles on Saturday in the Hampton Convocation Center.

 

Jenkins finished the game 9-of-15 from the floor, including 7-of-12 from three-point territory to lead the Pirates to their first victory over Coppin State since 2004.

 

Coppin State (11-13, 9-4 MEAC) was led by Whitney Cunningham who scored 22 points and collected 13 rebounds. It marked her third straight double-double and her eighth on the season overall.

 

The Eagles also received 17 points from Danielle Anders and 11 points from Shante Cummings.

 

Sharella Leslie had 15 points and Bernadette Fortune added 12 for the Pirates.
