MEAC Announces Tennis Weekly Honors

South Carolina State freshman Fanni Friska and senior Ivan Milivojevic were chosen as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Tennis Athletes of the Week, the league announced on Thursday. South Carolina State’s Aniko Kiss and Howard’s Eric Chavous were named the Rookies of the Week.

 

Friska (Fr., Gyor, Hungary) won two games to aid the Lady Bulldogs to a 2-0 mark last week. She shutout Benedict’s Deandra Reasonover in straight sets (6-0, 6-0) and followed that performance with a three set win 1-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-1) over Presbyterian’s Abby Diminich at the number one singles position.

 

Milivojevic (Sr., Novi Sad, Serbia) guided the Bulldogs to three victories last week. He swept Benedict’s Avery Coins in straight sets for the 7-0 win. Against Augusta State, he battled Bernardo Fernandes and earned the 7-5, 7-5 victory.  In a win over Presbyterian, Milivojevic topped Michael Nicol 6-2, 6-2.

 

Kiss (Fr., Subotica, Serbia) aided the Lady Bulldogs in victories over Benedict and Presbyterian last week. Against Benedict Kiss topped Shani Jones 6-0, 6-0. In a win over Presbyterian, she defeated Cara Caruso in straight sets 6-2, 6-1. She teamed up with Daria Sekerina and also won the doubles point 8-2 in the Presbyterian victory.

 

Chavous (Fr., Washington, DC) teamed up with George Diggs to win the doubles point 8-6 in a 4-3 loss to New Jersey Tech.

 

Other Top Performers:

 

George Diggs (How) topped New Jersey Tech’s Jonathan Lang 6-2, 7-5 at the number four position.  

 

Alyssa Works (How) won her first singles win of the season 6-2, 6-2 over New Jersey Tech’s Ana Lidon.
