MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY MEN'S BASKETBALL HONORS

Coppin State’s Tywain McKee was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.  Kevin Thompson of Morgan State was selected as the Rookie of the Week while South Carolina State’s Jason Johnson was named the Defensive Player of the Week.

 

McKee (G, 6-2, 182, Sr., Philadelphia, Pa.) averaged 19.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and three steals to help the Eagles post two victories over Winston-Salem State and Bethune-Cookman last week.  He recorded 26 points, with 5-of-6 shots from long range, including nine rebounds, seven assists and three steals against the B-CU Wildcats.  He also posted 13 points, with six assists and three steals in a 68-58 win over the Rams. 

 

Thompson (F, 6-8, 235, r-Fr., Baltimore, Md.) earns the conference’s Rookie of the Week honor for the second straight week, fourth rookie weekly accolade of the season.  He averaged 13.5 points and 5.5 rebounds to help the conference-leading Bears to a 2-0 mark last week.  He shot 7-of-9 (78 percent) from the field against South Carolina State and was 5-of-10 against Florida A&M.  He also collected eight boards in the 75-57 win. 

 

Johnson (C/F, 6-7, 220, Sr., Bronx, N.Y.) averaged nine rebounds, four blocks and two steals in two games last week for the Bulldogs.  He grabbed a game-high 13 boards with six blocked shots and three steals against Morgan State.  This is Johnson’s second consecutive conference defensive weekly accolade.   

 

Other Top Performances

 

Jessie Burton (SCSU) averaged 15 points, two rebounds and three assists to help the Bulldogs post a 1-1 mark last week. 

 

Thomas Coleman (NCAT) finished with a combined 15 points, 13 rebounds, three assists, eight blocks and one steal in two conference wins last week.

 

Michael Deloach (NCAT) averaged 24 points, five rebounds, two assist and 1.5 steals as the Spartans finish 1-1 last week. 

 

Reggie Holmes (MSU) averaged 17 points and four rebounds in two wins last week for the Bears. 

Brandon Monroe (NSU) grabbed six rebounds, dished out two steals, and blocked three shots in the Spartans win over Florida A&M.

 

Frisco Sandidge (DSU) averaged 12.5 points and 10 rebounds as the Hornets posted a 1-1 mark in conference play last week.

 

Jimmy Williams (SCSU) scored 17 points and pulled down eight rebounds with two assists and one steal in a 74-71 overtime win over Hampton.

 

Nick Wilson (NCAT) finished one rebound shy of a double-double with 15 points and nine boards against Bethune-Cookman.
