VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., December 28, 2009 - Morgan State's Kevin Thompson was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. Mike Phillips of Howard was named Rookie of the Week and Maryland Eastern Shore's Kevin White was named Defensive Player of the Week.
Thompson (F, 6-8, 235, So., Baltimore, Md.) recorded his ninth double-double of the season with 23 points and 25 rebounds in an 87-80 win over Towson. Thompson's 25 boards replace a previous high by Justin Nabors (24) of Lamar as the NCAA single-season high. He also shot 10-of-18 from the field en route to a career high in points.
Phillips (F, 6-7, 185, Fr., Fredericksburg, Va.) scored 12 points and pulled down a career-best eight rebounds against Middle Tennessee State. He connected on 6-of-8 shots from the field and recorded one assist, one blocked shot and one steal in the disappointing 69-51 loss.
White (G, 6-0, 165, Jr., Brooklyn, N.Y.) grabbed a career-high eight rebounds and registered three steals in the Hawks matchup against Northern Illinois. He also scored 13 points and dished out two assists in the loss.
Other Top Performers:
Tim Burns (UMES) recorded a career-high 29 points and hit 10-of-12 shots from the foul line in a disappointing loss to Northern Illinois.
Calvin Thompson (HOW) recorded 15 points including 2-of-3 baskets from long range against Middle Tennessee State.
