The Delaware State women's basketball team has now lost 10 games in a row after a 72-20 defeat at Syracuse this afternoon.
The Hornets are now 1-10 on the season, while the Orange improved to 10-0.
DSU's point total was the fewest in team history, according to existing program records (since 1976).
Delaware State was again plagued by poor shooting, hitting just seven of 46 shots from the field (15.2%). The Hornets managed just 10 points in each half.
Syracuse scored the first 10 points of the game. Delaware State tallied its first points on a jumper by Cortney Crockett to cut the Orange lead to 10-2 with 12:05 left in the first half.
Delaware State freshman Crystal Pitt hit two three-pointers in the first half; the second pulled the Hornets to within 21-10 with 2:25 to go before intermission.
The Orange closed out the half with a 7-0 run to lead 28-10 at the break.
Syracuse scored the first seven points of the second half, and opened up a 35-10 lead on a layup by Tyler Ash with 18:14 left to play.
Pitt was high scorer for Delaware State with six points. Redshirt freshman Tonya Clark had five points, while leading the team with six rebounds and four steals.
The Hornets suited up just nine players. Starting forward Brittney Washington (back) missed her fourth straight game, while starting guard Selena Galloway missed her third in a row (ankle).
Kayla Alexander came off the bench to lead three Syracuse players in double figures with a game-high 17 points. Lynnae Lampkins had 11 and Ash 10 for the Orange. Juanita Ward led all players with 12 rebounds for Syracuse.
Delaware State will return to action on Dec. 30 at home against William & Mary. Game time is 5:30 p.m.
