Delaware State Drops Two at USC Tournament

Competing with just nine players, the Delaware State saw its losing streak reach nine games after two defeats at the USC Women of Troy Classic this weekend.

The Lady Hornets fell to Cal. State-Bakersfield 74-37 in the opening round on Saturday evening, and then dropped a 49-38 decision to Dartmouth on Sunday.

Delaware State played without injured starters Selena Galloway (ankle) and Brittney Washington (back) this weekend.

In the Bakersfield contest, the Lady Hornets hit just four of 27 first half shots (14.8%), and trailed 33-10 at the break. Delaware State hit just 13 shots on 55 attempts (23.6%) in the game.

Sade Bowen and Tonya Clark led DSU with seven points each. Katie Williams led four CSBU players in double figures with 26 points.

Poor shooting also plagued the Lady Hornets in the loss to Dartmouth. Delaware State was 16-for-60 from the field (26.7%) in the contest.

Bowen and Cortney Crockett led DSU with eight points each. Sasha Dosenko led three Dartmouth players in double figures with 13 points.

Lady Pirates Fall To Old Dominion

NORFOLK, Va. -Hampton held tough against Old Dominion on Sunday at the Ted Constant Convocation Center, but the Lady Monarchs mounted a huge run in the second half to take an 83-64 win.

Hampton (2-7) pulled within 42-40 when Bernadette Fortune hit a pair of free throws with 14:31 to play, but the Lady Monarchs went on a 19-5 run that spanned just over eight minutes. Vicki Collier got the run started with a tip-in with 14:05 to play and ended with 6:28 to play, when Carolann Cloutier sank a pair of free throws.

The Lady Pirates would pull to within 10, 70-60, with 3:02 to play following a 3-point play from Quanneisha Perry but ODU (2-6) closed the game on a 13-4 run.

Fortune scored a game-high 21 points before fouling out with 6:08 to play, going 6-for-15 from the floor and 9-for-10 from the free throw line. Perry recorded a double-double, scoring 18 points on 7-for-17 shooting to go along with a team-high 10 rebounds.

Lady Rams Struggle in 101-46 Loss at Ole Miss

OXFORD, MS - Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (2-8) struggled in a 101-46 loss to the Ole Miss Rebels Sunday afternoon. The Lady Rams had no problems putting up shots with 57 attempts in the game, but the Ole Miss defense allowed just 14 made field goals to the Lady Rams.

The Lady Rams were able to nearly match the Rebels shot-for-shot as Ole Miss managed 58 shot attempts, but the Lady Rams generously sent their opponents to the free throw line for 31 attempts. The WSSU charity proved costly as Ole Miss connected on 22 free throws.

The game saw a breakout effort by WSSU freshman forward Shawanda Hanton who scored a career-high 10 points with two assists in the game. WSSU junior forward Vontisha Woods led the way for the Lady Rams with 12 points and a game-high eight rebounds. Junior guard Rene Rector added nine points, connecting on three three-pointers in the game. With the effort, she moves into second place and needs just one more three-pointer to tie the WSSU career record for three-pointers made. Currently, she has connected on 112 career three-pointers, one behind former Lady Ram Latoya Armstrong.
