MEAC Announces Women's Basketball Honors

Howard University junior Zykia Brown was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday. Hampton's Breanna Jones earned Rookie of the Week honors, while teammate Laura Lewis earned Defensive Player of the Week accolades.

Brown (Guard, 5-8, Jr., Riverdale, Md.) recorded 23 points and nine rebounds in a loss to George Mason. The junior added two assists, one block and one steal in the loss. 

Jones (Forward, 6-0, Fr., Springfield, Va.) averaged 11.5 points and nine rebounds in two games for the Lady Pirates last week. Against Temple Jones was 3-of-5 from the floor and tallied eight points and four rebounds. She followed that performance with a double-double of 15 points and 14 rebounds, while shooting 50-percent from the field, against East Carolina.

Lewis (Guard, 6-2, Jr., Waxahachie,Texas) led the Lady Pirates defensive efforts with five rebounds, two blocks and two steals against Temple. She also recorded six rebounds, one block and one steal in a loss to East Carolina.

Other Top Performers:

Amber Cook
(UMES) recorded 10 points, seven rebounds and dished out three assists in a loss to Iona.

Saadia Doyle
(How) posted 12 points, nine rebounds and two steals against George Mason.

April McBride (UMES) was 2-of-4 from the field with six points, five rebounds, three steals and one block in a loss to Iona.

Choicetta McMillian (Ham) guided the Lady Pirates with 26 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals in two games last week.

Karona Roach (UMES) tallied eight points, three rebounds and two assists in a loss to Iona.
