Norfolk State Senior Day honoree Angie Clewis had a match-high 11 kills in the Spartans' 3-1 win over Winston-Salem State on Sunday afternoon at Echols Hall. NSU (8-19) took the match 25-17, 17-25, 25-20, 25-14.
In the first set, WSSU (4-32) scored the first two points, but the Spartans tied things up on a kill by Chynna Blaker. A kill by Nicole Kessner put the Spartans up 4-3 and they did not trail for the rest of the set.
In set two, the Lady Rams tacked on the first two points again, but NSU rallied back to tie it at 4-all. A Spartan attack error gave WSSU a lead they would maintain the rest of the way to even the match at 1-1. But the Spartans buckled down in the third and fourth sets to take the match.
Ashley Harris and Annika Barnwell each had six kills to lead the Lady Rams. Alexandria Brown had a team-high 16 assists.
For NSU, Elayne Greer had nine kills and Tracey Copley had 12 digs and seven kills. The other Senior Day honorees, Solange Honore and Aurelia Isham, had 10 and nine digs, respectively.
