MEAC VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP SET FOR THIS WEEKEND

The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) will host the 2009 MEAC Volleyball Championship tournament beginning at 10 a.m. Friday-Sunday, November 20-22 in the Coppin Center at Coppin State University. 

For the third straight year, Maryland Eastern Shore earned the top seed in the north after posting an undefeated record in conference play (10-0). The Lady Hawks have advanced to the championship match five times; including last season's 3-2 loss to the defending tournament champion Florida A&M Lady Rattlers.

Florida A&M secured the top seed in the south after posting a 8-0 mark in MEAC play. The Lady Rattlers, who have won 12 MEAC volleyball crowns, will vie for their ninth consecutive conference title and 13th overall.

The MEAC Volleyball Championship tournament begins on Friday, November 20 at 10 a.m. with Bethune-Cookman (S2) facing off against Morgan State (N3). Maryland Eastern Shore (N1) will compete against Norfolk State (S4) in the second match of the day at 1 p.m. Florida A&M (S1) will contend with Howard (N4) at 4 p.m. and South Carolina (S3) will battle Delaware State (N2) in the final match of the day at 7 p.m.

Competition will continue on Saturday with the semi-final rounds at noon and 3:30 p.m. The volleyball championship tournament will conclude on Sunday beginning at noon. The championship finale will be televised on ESPNU in a tape-delayed broadcast on the same day beginning at 10 p.m.

Coppin State will host Community Fun Day in the Coppin Center and Tawes Center on Saturday, November 21. Scheduled activities include health screenings, face painting, arts & crafts, games and much more.  Admission to the tournament is $5 per day.
