MEAC Announces Volleyball Championship Seedings

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore Lady Hawks and Florida A&M University Lady Rattlers earned the top seeds in the northern and southern divisions of the 2009 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Championship tournament. The tournament begins at 10 a.m. on Friday, November 20 and will conclude at noon on Sunday, November 22 in the Coppin Center on the campus of Coppin State University.

UMES finished the season undefeated (10-0) in MEAC play for the third consecutive year. The Lady Hawks  
won 30 of 31 conference sets and finished the regular season on a 13 match win streak.

Florida A&M earned the top seed in the southern division with an unblemished 8-0 mark in conference play. The defending MEAC champion Lady Rattlers have won nine of the last ten conference titles.

Delaware State secured the second seed in the northern division. The Lady Hornets' 8-2 record was their best finish ever in conference play. Morgan State (4-6) won the three-way tiebreaker over Howard and Hampton to capture the third seed while the Lady Bison earned the fourth and final spot in the northern division.

Bethune-Cookman (5-3) captured the second seed in the southern division. South Carolina State (4-4) earned the third seed and Norfolk State (3-5) rounded out the fourth and final spot in the southern division.

Only the top four teams in each division are eligible to compete for the conference title. Seedings are determined by conference records. Hampton (4-6), Coppin State (0-10) and North Carolina A&T (0-8) have been eliminated from tournament play based on their MEAC record.

The MEAC Volleyball Championship tournament begins on Friday, November 20 through Sunday, November 22 at Coppin State University. The volleyball championship will conclude with the championship finale at noon on Sunday, November 20. The match will be televised on ESPNU in a tape-delayed broadcast on the same day beginning at 10 p.m.
