Lady Wildcats Defeat Florida Memorial 80-78 in OT

The Lady Wildcats got off to a rocky start after hitting the first shot of the game, allowing the Lions to build an eight point lead by the middle of the first half. B-CU remained in the game in the early going with excellent success on the free throw line, going 15-17 from the stripe in the first half. However, the Lady Wildcats couldn't get the field goals to fall, going over five minutes without a field goal in the middle of the first, and finishing the half shooting 9 of 26.

However, the Lady Wildcats fought back, tying up the score with just two minutes, and battled out the end of the half in which B-CU only led for a total about 90 seconds. The teams went into the locker room facing a 35-35 tie, and the prospect of a new game in the second period.

Coming out of the half, the shootout continued with eight lead changes in the second half. Florida Memorial broke out of the scoring lock, and created a little breathing room. However, B-CU was not willing to just lie down, and tore the lead down to just one, four times in the final five minutes. With such a tight game, B-CU faced a tough situation, with the leading scorer and outside shooter both fouled out. In the close of regulation, B-CU got great play out of newcomers, and point guard Jasmine Daniels gave the Lady Wildcats new life, as she hit a game saving three-pointer with just four seconds remaining to tie the game at 70-70, leading the game to overtime.

In the overtime period, FMU jumped out on top again, leading by seven, but B-CU battled back, tying the game up at 78 apiece with just under two minutes to go, on a huge three-pointer from by junior college transfer Alice Walton. As Moore Gymnasium erupted, the Lady Wildcats began to gain an upper hand, holding off the FMU offense, and making the go-ahead score with just 12 seconds on the clock, on a Jasmine Daniels slashing layup. The Lady Wildcats held on to win in overtime 80-78.
