MEAC Announces Cross Country Weekly Honors

Norfolk State sophomores Philemon Kimutai and Aurora Scott were selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Cross Country Athletes of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday.

Kimutai (So., Eldoret, Kenya) won the Great American Cross Country Festival (HBCU Challenge) with a time of 24:46. His winning time on the 8K course aided the Spartans to a first place finish among 12 teams. This is the third straight week that Kimutai has earned Athlete of the Week honors.

Scott (So., Portsmouth, Virginia) paced the Spartans for the third straight week and won with a time of 18:27 at the Great American Cross Country Festival (HBCU Challenge).  Her time aided her team to a first place finish out of 13 competing teams. This is the third consecutive week that Scott has earned Athlete of the Week honors.

Other Top Performers:

Jasmin Branch (Ham) guided the Lady Pirates to a second place finish with a time of 19:17 at the Great American Cross Country Festival (HBCU Challenge).

Justus David (MSU) won the 5K race at the Delaware State Invite with a time of 15:45.16 and guided his team to a second place finish.

(Ham) led the Pirates with a time of 26:37 at the Great American Cross Country Festival (HBCU Challenge).

Amon Kiprotich (UMES) finished third in 15:53.79 at the Delaware State Invite.  


Kendra Mayers (DSU) was seventh with a time of 20:41.97 at the Delaware State Invite.

Andre McDonald (DSU) led his team to a third place finish and was seventh on the 5K course (16:22.82) at the Delaware State Invite.

Ashlee Nievess (MSU) placed fifth at the Delaware State Invite with a time of 20:28.72.

Brittney Stewart (SCSU) was sixth on the 5K course Great American Cross Country Festival (HBCU Challenge) with a time of 19:37.17 and followed that performance with a first place time of 11:50.98 in a 3K race at the Bulldog Panther Invitational.

Tamica Thomas (UMES) won the Delaware State Invite in 19:27.47 and aided the Lady Hawks to a first place finish.
