Lady Pirates Fall To North Carolina Central, 3-1

North Carolina Central beat the Hampton 3-1 (8-25, 25-22, 26-24, 25-19) Sunday night at Holland Hall. The Lady Eagles took three straight sets after losing the first one.

Hampton dominated the first set, winning it 25-8 on the strength of 10 kills in 17 total attacks for a .471 hitting percentage. NCCU had nine errors and just one kill in that set. The Lady Eagles rebounded, though, particularly in the third set, where they recorded a .217 hitting percentage on 16 kills and just six errors.

Aaryn Harrison and Mariah Baylor led the Lady Pirates (5-12) with nine kills apiece, with Mianna Armstrong adding seven and Lina Cordoba recording six. Cordoba also had a team-best .455 hitting percentage, recording just one error in 11 chances. Adriana Vazquez had three of Hampton's nine service aces.

Lihi Elkayam had 34 of the team's 38 assists, while Armstrong led the team in digs on defense with 19. Ivana Suput added 12 digs for the Lady Pirates.

Belinda Behncke-Biney led NCCU with 11 kills, while Tasha-Gaye Richards added five kills of her own, to go along with just two errors in 10 attempts for a team-best .300 hitting percentage. The Lady Eagles (7-16) had just two service aces.

NCCU had 41 kills in 128 attempts as a team, recording a .117 hitting percentage.

The Lady Pirates will return to action on Friday, when they travel to Dover, Del. to start conference play against Delaware State.
