Howard Powers Past Winston-Salem State

Junior Gazelle d'Artois had a match-high 20 kills and Tosin Elebute added 15 as Howard took down Winston-Salem State 3-1 (23-25, 25-19, 25-5, 25-18) Sunday afternoon at Burr Gym. It was the third consecutive win for Howard.

d'Artois' 20 kills tied a season-high. The California native hit .342 in the victory (20-7-38) and added six digs, four aces and a block assist.

Elebute was also a force at the net and hit .560 (15-1-25), a season-high, while digging out six balls on the defensive end.

Junior Nia Moore chipped in eight kills, two digs, two assists and two aces. Freshman setter Jasmine King had 49 assists and six digs as Howard moved to 4-17 on the season. Nicole Brown led the Bison with a team-high 10 digs.

Sophomore Taylor Montgomery chipped in four kills, four blocks and three digs.

After falling 23-25 in the first set, Howard rebounded for a 25-19 win in the second stanza.

The Lady Bison never relinquished the lead in the third set and ran away with it after a Moore kill spurred an 8-0 run midway thru the contest. Howard took its largest lead, a 20-point advantage, when an ace by King sealed the 25-5 Lady Bison win.

The Lady Bison hit .393 (56-14-107) as a team in the decision while posting a season-high .667 attack percentage in the third set.

Winston-Salem State (2-20) was paced by 15 kills from Annika Barnwell.

Howard travels to Lafayette on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. matchup.
