Sophomore Aurora Scott turned in a first-place finish in a season-best time of 18:27 to help lead the Norfolk State women's cross country team to the title at Saturday's HBCU Challenge (5K) at the Great American Cross Country Festival. The Spartans tallied 31 points for the win.
The other teams finishing in the top five were: Hampton (43), North Carolina Central (93), St, Augustine's (118) and Bowie State (146).
Junior Jennifer Chichester came in second in 18:52, while freshman Kellen Rutto posted a time of 19:34 to finish fourth overall.
Sophomores Jamia Hutto and Syeeda Gee rounded out the Spartans' top five, finishing 11th and 13th, respectively.
The Spartans have the week off. They return to action on Oct. 17 when they run in the William & Mary Tribe 6K Open.
