Florida A&M remained unbeaten at home in the newly christened Al Lawson Center, as they defeated arch-rival Bethune-Cookman, 3-0 (27-25, 25-23, 25-21), in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference match Sunday afternoon, to conclude Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Fans were given pink ribbons as they entered the arena, while the game ball had pink stripes.
FAMU (9-7, 4-0 MEAC) was led by Jovana Blazeski, who finished with a game high 20 kills and 12 digs, while Maria Gomez added 13 kills. Jessica Bond finished with a game high 41 assists, while Susan Egoavil tallied 10 digs.
In set one, B-CU reeled off seven straight points to tie the score at 20-20, capped off by a Chelle Ticeson kill. The Lady Wildcats would then tie the score at 25-25 on a kill by Julie Gibson.
Blazeski would then record back-to-back kills to give the Lady Rattlers a 27-25 win to end the first set.
The second set would end in dramatic fashion as B-CU erased an eight point deficit with a 10-3 run to take a 20-19 lead over FAMU.
Blazeski would then record back-to-back service aces, followed by a Pamela Barrera kill give the Lady Rattlers a 25-23 win in set two.
B-CU (8-12, 2-1 MEAC) was paced by Jessica Wilson with eight kills, followed byTiceson with seven. Jacqueline Rodriguez finished with a team high 15 assists and 10 digs, while Julie Gibson finished with 11 assist.
FAMU will return to action on Tuesday as they will travel to Tampa, Fla., to take on the University of South Florida in at 7 p.m.
